The Working Group on Economic Policy to prepare the Labour 20 proposals for the G20
On March 18-19, 2013 the Meeting of the Trade Union Advisory Committee (TUAC) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Working Group on Economic Policy was held at the OECD premises in Paris. At a special session the Labour 20 representatives from trade unions of the OECD member countries, Argentina, Brazil, India and South Africa, and international labour organisations discussed the current G20 process issues, including the Labour 20 recommendations and the joint Labour and Employment and Finance Minister Meeting .
High importance of supporting aggregate, sustainable demand and inclusive labour market policies aimed at reinvigorating economic growth and reducing inequality was acknowledged at the meeting. Delegates gave particular emphasis to the issues of structural reforms and youth unemployment.
The Russian G20 Presidency's focus on Growth through Quality Jobs and Investment, as well the initiative to hold the Joint Finance and Labour Ministers Meeting, were recognised as important opportunities by the Working Group. They were perceived as potentially valuable steps towards better understanding of how better to link quality employment and growth.
Particular recommendations developed by the Working Group will form the basis of the Labour 20 proposals for the Joint Finance and Labour Ministers Meeting in Moscow in July.
