First Civil 20 meeting to be held in Moscow on December 11-13

The first Civil 20 meeting will be held in Moscow on December 11-13 as part of Russia's G20 presidency. The conference theme is G20 Civil Society Vision for Russian Presidency.

During the conference, global civil society representatives will discuss civil society's expectations of Russia's G20 presidency, identify ways to integrate civil society in  the Group of Twenty process and try to assess the effectiveness of solutions developed by the Group of Twenty for the G20 nations and the entire international community. The conference will be attended by Russian Sherpa Ksenia Yudaeva, Russian Minister Mikhail Abyzov, officials from Presidential Executive Office and Ministry of Finance, leading international experts and representatives of international organizations. Russia is the first G20 chair to host a Civil 20 whose main goal is to establish a productive dialogue between global civil society, politicians and decision-makers based on the priorities designated in the official agenda of the Russian G20 Presidency.

Six thematic working groups have been created as part of the Civil 20: Environmental Sustainability and Energy, Food Security, Post-2015 MDGs, Financial inclusion and financial education, Anti-corruption, Labor and Employment. The C20 plans to hold consultations with international civil society organizations in these areas, draft a consolidated position and submit it to the G20 leaders. In the medium term, the goal is even more ambitious: to institutionalize a dialogue with civil society at the G20 level.

Academics, international experts, and Russian and international NGOs will participate in the C20 in 2013. Its work will be based on the principles of openness, accountability and transparency in decision-making.

Moscow will also host a conference on Fostering Economic Growth and Sustainability as part of Russia's G20 presidency on December 13. Russia will officially present the priorities and key event programs of its presidency.

Civil 20 meetings will be held at the Higher School of Economics (December 11 and 13) and the Hotel National (December 12).
